 Pet Survival Kits

Pet Survival Kits are an Essential Component to Emergency Preparedness

If you are a pet owner, it is important to know and understand that pet survival kits are an essential component to emergency preparedness. It is not at all uncommon for products that are designed for natural disasters, pandemics, and weather emergencies to be marketed to consumers. However, it is not often that pet survival products are marketed. However, if you own a pet, it is important that you know that humans are not the only types of life that needs to be protected during the event of an emergency. Pets are often considered to be part of a family unit, yet when a disaster of some form strikes, many pet owners take it for granted that the pets that they own will survive the event. This is an extremely unfortunate fact. Pet survival kits will assist in the pet's ability to live and recover from the emergency that has transpired.

Pets are often hailed as one of the most enjoyable and entertaining aspects of a family unit. Various types of creatures provide their owners with a tremendous amount of joy and contentment. Many pets offer protection to those that live in the home. There are many pets that have the capability of comforting their owners. Above all, these animals provide their owners with companionship and loyalty. Pets do not ask their owners for a thing, but they provide all that they have to their owners in a very generous manner. Pets are heavily dependent upon those that elect to raise and keep them. They depend on people to provide quality care, comfort, as well as nutrition. Despite the fact that many owners know and understand these facts, pets are often forgotten completely in the event of an emergency or disaster situation.

One of the most beneficial things that you may do for your pet is to ensure that you invest in their safety and security. While human survival is extremely important, it is important to prioritize pet survival as well. There are several different types of pet survival kits available on the market today. Not only are these effective in preventing emergencies that could affect your pet's physical health, these products are designed to also handle basic emergencies that may occur to your pet so that further injury or sickness is limited until appropriate medical care may be pursued. The items contained in pet survival kits have the capability of sustaining the life of a pet - even in the direst circumstances. As a pet owner, it is your responsibility to ensure your pet's safety. Pet survival kits will help you do just that.

    Best earthquake survival kits?
I want to prepare my family in case there is a huge earthquake . I know the basics, battery radio, batteries, firstaid kit, matches, canned foods, can opener, extra clothes, blankets,I even thought of having extra bags of dog and cat food for my pets.Any more suggestions? My main concern is what are the best containers to store water in? You know ones that won’t collapse too easily if something should fall on it? I want to keep these containers outside in our shed since we do not have a garage. We live in the desert where the temp can get upto 120 degrees in the summer.Would this water be drinkable and safe to drink? whatever is left that won’t evaporate that is,and how often should I change it out?To whoever answers, thank you very much.

    Bunny survival kit…?
    Hi,
I live in a 2 bed apartment with wooden floors, im currently renting and would like to get a pet.
I have been looking into a pet rabbit to live indoors but not free-roam.
the breeds i have been looking at are holland dwarf, lionhead and Mini Rex.
As i dont have a HUGE amount of space I am particulary looking for a small breed.
I have found an indoor hutch/cage (like a hamsters but slightly bigger- designed for dwarf rabbits) and a fold down run for it.
I would ideally have the bunny in the hutch and i can get him/her out and let it run about in the pen (no chewing of the cables around the apartment)
Would this work with the bunny?
does it need to be free roam?
what else would the bunny need to be comfortable?
i have a list of the types of food they can eat and how best to feed them etc but i want the bunny to be able to be comfortable before i get one- otherwise its not fair on the animal.
I had 2 rabbits YERS ago, 1 was violent and ripped my mums hand to shreds so my dad kept her, the othr was given colliflour (dont know if thats spelt right) and sort of exploded.
I dont want anything to hurt my fluffy friend so am doing all the research before i even ask the estate agents if i can have a pet!!

    any help wil be fantastic!
    thank you

  4. Lia's Dwarfs says:

    BD and Queen_Becka are right.

Keep the babies with the doe.

I had litter die unexpectedly at about 1 week of age, I still don’t know why. One day they looked great and the next they were dead.

Usually you can see the reason. Kits die most often from being chilled. Make sure you check often to see if any of them have fallen out so you can put them back. Check them at least once a day to make sure they aren’t being under or over fed. Make sure they are developing normally.

Checking on the babies has never been a problem for me. I’ve never had a doe upset by my intrusion. I have heard of breeders that have does that do not want a person near their babies so they distract them with some food. I try to pet the doe or let her smell my hand, but I really don’t know if that makes a difference.

Keep the babies with the mom until 8 weeks of age.

I had a baby that was probably about 7 weeks old
and was looking like a show prospect,
but one day he just died. I figured he just didn’t take to the pellets well. He was still with his mom and his sister. His sister made it, but for some reason he didn’t.

My point is babies are fragile and die unexpectedly, it’s just something you have to accept when you’re a breeder.

    Sorry if that is discouraging.

Sounds like you are doing great so far!
They all made it through kindling and that is a big deal.

Just keep checking them. Handle the babies a little bit more as they grow, but don’t handle the mom too much.
Give the doe all the food she wants and fresh water.
Anywhere from 7-13 days they should start opening their eyes and start coming out of the box at about 2 1/2 weeks sometimes a little sooner sometimes a little later.

You can hold them just make sure you have a good hold on them without squeezing because some of those little babies sure can wiggle!

Also if you have a wire cage you are keeping the doe and the kits make sure the holes on the sides are very small because you would be surprised how small of a space those babies can fit through.

I had a baby that fell out of the box and out of the cage and landed a good 4 feet to the ground. It was only about 3 days old and it crawled about 5 feet away from where it landed before I found it. The little guy survived, but now I have 4 inch tall plastic covering all bottoms of senior doe cages.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Sorry for my ramble
    (I have too many stories)

How are you and your family prepared for a disaster?
Ok, so me/husband were watching tv and a local channel had survival tips and emergency prepare list. Do you have a kit and supplies necessary for your family/pets? What do you have and where do you store it?

We’re thinking about making a kit and putting something together.. .What should we do ! I’ve checked out READY.gov for a list of supplies.. I was just curious on what others have- 3 have two toddlers and a large breed dog !

    Thanks

My Rabbit Oreo had KITS! YAY (:?
This morning Oreo (black special rex doe) had 6 kits and it’s her first time! The father named Wally is a rex rabbit or a satin rabbit (I’m still not sure). 3 kits are black and the other are pink (they’re so Cute!)

Will all of them survive cause I know does have 4 nips. Maybe could you give me the percentages for their survival ? Thanks (:
    I’m one happy pet owner!

  7. ♥☼☺Ж♫ İżżİė ♫Ж☺☼♥ says:

thank goodness some want-to-be pet owners think things through before buying there lovable animal! about the breeds, i have a mini rex/lop and she is quite small, so the mini rex breed would probably be small enough. with the hutch, it would have to be much bigger than a hamsters cage. at least triple the size i would say if they are only going to have a small run. your bunny would not have to be free roaming if you had a big enough run and hutch but if you had a small say laundry that doesn’t have any loose wires about or sharp objects then maybe you could put a gate across the entrance to let her have a bit more room.
from what you have said everything would work BUT there are a few problems. most rabbits need greenery and if she can’t have grass then there would have to be substitutes. veggies include broccoli stems, carrots, thistles (this is my rabbits favourite) and if you could get it, pick a few hand fulls of grass to keep her happy although if you live in a flat make sure these are NOT by road edges ‘cos they will covered in polution fumes and dont have weed killer on them so it may not be safe to give her gras. another thing my rabbit likes eating is the autum leaves that have come off the trees.
other things she will need are:
bedding- i recomend dust free sawdust becasue it is not very messy
food- but you have got that sorted out. (hay can be instead of grass ((it is dried grass!)) )
water- tie a water bottle (you can buy a simple one at any pet shop) on the hutch and one on the run
litter tray- this will make your life so much easier! and it will also mean that as long as you clean the tray out enough your flat won’t stink like hell. you can fill them with sawdust although i use cat litter as it lasts longer. ask your vet/ petshop how to start training your bunny to use it
    vet- injections, check ups e.t.c.
insurance- not everyone has this as it can be very expensive but it is worth it.
toys- if your bunny is going to be on its own then these are very important to stop her from becoming bored. it can be anything from a cardboard box with holes in it and a toilet role suffed with treats and hay to a rattley ball and a toy rabbit.
love and care- do i have to say anything?!

i think that is all but if you are unsure of anything ask your vet or petshop owner or breeder or whoever you get your rabbit ffrom. good luck and have fun with your new bunny if you get one!

Were you Planning them? You seem to know a fair deal about your Bunnies! =)

Does normally have 6-8 Nipples/teats,my Dwarf & Cashmere Lop Does have 6 nips. As long as the seem fine & have round bellies & the nest is well build, plus she is looking after them well,i would say they have a 99.99 survive chance! I bet they will grow up to be healthy, beautiful Rabbits,Rex cross Satin Rabbits are unusual & pretty. =)

Hope you enjoy your Kits as much i do!(Bet you will),xxx
